Banner-Shaking

Alright, I suppose now is the time for the much-requested blog post. The one about my career as a banner-shaker.

My first day, according to a facebook wall post, went like this: "My first day of work went like this: excitedexcitedexcitedOOOOO I get a SIGN!! wavesignwavesignwavesign buuuuy dominoooeess pizzaaaaaaaaa I loooook stuuuupid WHATEVER wavesignwavesign OOOgoodsong!! WAVESIGNWAVESIGNWAVESIGN aw its done wavesignPARENTS D:< waveSIGNwaveSIGN no more! hoooome! PS I saw Shelby Yanda and Jacob Kruger drive past. Did they buy pizza? NO O:"

I think the lack of spaces in this post was a result of a maxed character count for the post. So it went on, and at one point I began to count cars. Here are the facebook posts with the stats for those [which had been shortened due to the character limit]
"What do I do while sign-waving? I car count. Sounds stupid, but it's fun. The first thing I did was find the rate at which cars passed me. I did so by counting the # of cars that passed in a min. time, then averaged out my samples. I calculated a rate of 60cpm. Thats 18,000 cars in a 5hr workday. Now I count types of passing cars. Yesterday-VW bugs, 28 cars. Today- ugly cube cars."
"UGLY CUBE CAR COUNT- 48 cars! That's .2667% of the 18000 cars that drove by today. Hm. Any suggestions on what I should count tomorrow?"
"So, for today's car count, I took Jacy's suggestion and counted all the cars that looked like [they costed] a million bucks. The number? a whopping 217 cars, breaking the old record. ridiculous. That's 1.21% of the 18,000 cars that pass. Don't worry, Kirk, on monday I will count the mini coopers."
Although I never posted it, the mini cooper count came out at 18 cars, which was 1 out of every 18000 cars was a mini cooper.
Work became a usual topic in my life, and it began to appear EVERYWHERE; either I would hear a song on the radio and think 'Hey! I could shake a sign with that' or I would watch the other sign shakers with contempt, or would even post a webcomic about it.

It was rather annoying.

I must admit, some interesting things did happen to me while I was shaking my sign, the first probably being that a someone drove by in a company car from our competitors and flipped me off as they passed.
Another interesting occurance were they few random souls who would come up and talk to me. One of them did so continually, telling me stories of his military days and instructing me to join at the first chance I got.

I must say that the most interesting things, however, are what I learned.

1. The most uncomfortable sensation you can have is getting a static electric shock in your ear. I discovered this while shaking my sign. The sign rubbed against my body, creating friction, creating static, which traveled up through my earbuds and into my ears. Very strange. I don't recommend it.
2. The nicest people are the elderly and grungy bikers.
3.Teenagers are stupid.
4. Teenagers are REALLY stupid.
5. I CANNOT do long hours of monotonous labor without my ipod.

Speaking of my ipod, I found that there was a regular set of songs that I preferred to listen to as I was shaking my sign.
-anything by basshunter
-most songs by bitter:sweet
-shake it [metro station]
-chemical brothers
-most songs with a good strong beat.
I found that, after a certain point, I began to measure time by music. A song on average is about three minutes twenty seconds long, and I could usually figure that ten minutes had passed if I had gone through three songs.

Overall, it was a very boring job. ^.^ Oh well, if I think of anything else, I may include it in my next blog post!

Well here I am...

I'm writing this blog for a few reasons. Reason one, my parents both suggested I do so. Something about my life being interesting enough that other people may want to know about it [which I still have trouble believing.] Reason two, as my father pointed out, having a blog like this has the possibility of improving my creative writing skills [which is more logical and likely than reason number one.] Reason three, well, I'm still working on that one, but most sets of things come in threes, so may as well have a third reason. I'm sure it's here somewhere, possibly an ulterior motive, or maybe I'm just looking for attention.
Meh. Whatever.
So, I bet some of you are probably wondering where the title for this blog came from, and if you aren't - tough. I'm telling you where it came from anyways.
I just came up with the name a while ago, and when I was discussing it with a friend, she suggested that it sounded like a band name.
However, seeing as I have no band with which to use such a name, I decided to not let it go to waste and use it for this blog.
I would write more at this point, but I need to go blindfold myself for a creative writing assignment.
Fare thee well.
